Am I Really Brave?
8/21/2025

I’m currently wandering the picturesque streets of Portugal—solo. No husband, no friends, no family, no tour group, and unless you count my AirBnb owner, I don’t know a soul here. I just booked myself a solo adventure for much-needed rejuvenation and reflection.
Before I left, people kept insisting I was brave and courageous. But here’s the thing—I don’t actually feel brave. Not in the slightest. Why? Because honestly, traveling to a foreign country by myself doesn’t scare me. I started to reflect: What does it mean to be brave? Isn’t a little bit of healthy fear required? If you’re not at least mildly scared, is it still bravery, or just a strong case of wanderlust with a side of good wine?
To do the things that scare us, we have to let go of our ego. Our ego loves the comfort zone—where no one gets lost and your dinner order is never misunderstood. #noegoleaders, on the other hand, put ego and pride aside and step into what sparks a little fear— like navigating one-way cobblestone streets in a rental car (by the way NEVER rent a car in Lisbon).
So, am I brave? Maybe. Or maybe I’m just hungry for adventure—and good wine (which is cheaper here than water, who doesn’t love that in a country 🍷 . Either way, here’s to leaving egos behind! #noegoleader
